Policies and Responsibilities
Most of this stuff is common sense. Show up on time. Stay your whole shift. Communicate openly and frequently. Be polite to students, staff, and faculty. If you're overwhelmed or feel like you need a break, ask for help!
The "Three Strikes" Policy
As is common with all jobs, you need to stick to the rules and procedures in the employee handbook (this). If you show up late without notice, leave early without notice, leave the studio unattended without notice, harass or intimidate patrons, or fail to properly take care of the equipment, you will receive two consecutive warnings. The first will be a verbal warning, the second a written warning; after that you will be fired. If you stick to your schedule AND communicate openly, you will be fine.
Immediate Termination
There are two exceptions to the Three Strikes Policy:
- Sexual harassment. (Please read the University Policy here.)
- Showing up to work intoxicated and / or drinking on the job.
Your Responsibilities
You are responsible for your shift time, the equipment check-out and check-in, helping students set up their studio shoots (not operating the camera for them), and basic editing questions.
NOT Your Responsibilities
You are not responsible for answering questions if you are here outside your shift time, for maintaining or fixing equipment, for operating the camera or teleprompter for a student group, or for answering any advanced questions about software or hardware. You are not responsible for any requests that come from students, staff, or faculty that fall outside your responsibilities. This applies especially to requests from faculty, who may want to recruit you into the position of pseudo-Teacher's Assistant.
You are always welcome to go above and beyond your responsibilities if you want to, but you are not required to.
